In “The Greatest Comic Book Reconceptions” Ed Greer and Producer Bill try to retool several comic book characters so that they live up to their names. Remember when Stan Lee took a crack at reimagining the DC Universe? This is like that but even crazier. This pod is always a creative exercise but in this session we really worked up a sweat. We’ve tried to stop coming up with sellable pitches on this podcast but we just can’t stop! In this ep we may have created or recreated a few characters basically from scratch. Save this podcast because this may launch about three screenplays in the future and you’ll have heard it here first. Excelsior!

Two days after Christmas 2022 Ed and Producer Bill try to determine “The Greatest Future For DC Movies”. What starts as a good faith attempt to extol the virtues of Black Adam (c’mon there’s…a couple) turns into our speculation over what James Gunn will do with DC and in turn what we would do. In the spirit of giving we literally throw those enterprising Warner Bros execs some pretty decent principles for putting this disparate universe back together so that it can truly compete with Da Mouse Gang over at Disney. What would we do with Martian Manhunter, The Creeper, OMAC, The Question and many more? How would Ed fix the screenplay to Black Adam? Listen up, let the speculation flow over you as we show we are truly good at this and it’s only a matter of time before we get our shot at some of these characters.

This is Ed and Ron interviewing the brilliant minds behind Universal’s "Violent Night" starring David Harbour. The hit film was written by our guests Pat Casey & Josh Miller ("Hey Stop Stabbing Me", "Sonic 1 & 2") who know a thing or two about action-comedy screenwriting. Pat & Josh share their thoughts on “The Greatest Action Films : Christmas Edition.” They talk eloquently about the action movies that shaped their sensibilities, some of which take place at Christmas. Their love of these snowy punch ‘em ups eventually led to them writing one of the ultimate Yuletide action films of all time in “Violent Night.” This one has everything from Ed’s appreciation of screenwriting as an art especially as evidenced in the movie “Cliffhanger”, to Ron’s outsized appreciation for the oeuvre of Jean Claude Van Damme. I gotta say it was a good day and today’s a good day for you to go see “Violent Night.” Seriously!! It’s f–ing good! We discuss whether the movie star is going out of vogue OR are there just more types of actors considered “stars” these days. With the myriad ways people can get famous these days, does that threaten the craft of acting? Are movie stars even the best examples of good acting? Is that truly what most of them are there for? Is typecasting still even a thing? Questions abound in this star-spanning episode as we discuss everything from the history of movie stars to their present state. We then theorize about what movie stardom might mean in the far-flung future of VR, deep fakes, and beyond. We also touch on recent comments from the likes of Quentin Tarantino and share our thoughts on why he’s so upset about “the death of the movie star.” And last things last, we read another five-star review!!! We also talk about friend of the show Lon Harris’ idea for saving the movie theater experience.
