“The Greatest Cartoon Reboots” could be misleading. We aren’t trying to rank cartoon reboots, we are talking about the ones that deserve it according to us. There are so many action cartoons from different eras that seem like they’d be slam dunks in our modern IP obsessed times but these seem forgotten or relegated to development hell. This isn’t just nostalgia (well some of it is) we’re really trying to identify why a cartoon would make a good movie or show right now and we even hatch an idea for a killer cartoon version of a certain timeless pulp barbarian. This one is creative, innovative and illustrative of our approach to storytelling babay!! Enjoy!

“Is Superhero Fatigue The Greatest?” That’s a loaded question isn’t it? It’s funny that it only took about 12 years of consistent, big budget comic book fare at the movies for us to declare that the party was over and mostly because one company “started losing the thread.” Ed and Producer Bill refute this assertion while also acknowledging the limitations of the genre as presently represented. There’s a fantastic conversation to be had about the new ways that we are going to depict superheroes in the future via things like Invincible, The Boys, and the new James Gunn DC Universe. This is a great primer for the type of conversation we’ll be having at LA COMICON (https://comicconla.com/) on Saturday December 2nd 2023 in Room 402 A at 3:00 p.m. and in our Nerdy Standup Show at 6:00 p.m. in Room 402 B!! Of course this can’t be THE definitive list of “The Greatest Films of The Last Five Years” but it’s the ones that sprang to mind while we recorded this. We’re here to debunk the notion that “they don’t make ‘em like that anymore.” Because they kinda do but you’re missing them because you’re a slave to the algorithm and marketing. Ron said during the recording that we’d provide a list of all the movies we talk about but, um no, just listen to the damn episode and you’ll see we aren’t mentioning any Marvel flicks or stuff everybody knows. This is some populist, yet gourmet shit we’re talking about. These (for our money, which may have a different exchange rate than yours) are movies made recently that aren’t franchises or reboots and have the ability to move you by illustrating some true aspect of the human experience. Enjoy!

“The Greatest Thing About Independent Comics” is the subject of our chat with comic book artist, and storyboard savant Jeff Johnson. He’s got an independent, fantasy adventure comic on Kickstarter called Rogues’ Kingdom with James Robinson and Brennan Wagner. We talk and look at some images (see our Youtube version of this podcast!) but mostly we get Jeff’s ethos on storytelling and dig into the life of a comic book artist. Listen and learn from a master storyteller who along with Dan Panosian, and Dave Johnson, formed The Original Drink and Draw Social Club. Are comics going more towards independent production since they are such valuable intellectual properties for adaptation into other mediums OR are independent comics some of the last truly unique stories available in popular media?
