Is magic a great tool for fantasy storytelling or is it the greatest trick ever pulled?
Ron loves fantasy books. They helped him get through tough times. Ed and Producer Bill grew up hardcore sci-fi and comic book nerds. Today is the day we get to the bottom of why Ed and Bill are so damn hard on magic but they’ll read stories about webslingers and flying dudes all day. This episode is a real moment for the Greatest Pod. We confront our differences, we state our cases, and at the end, there’s a new understanding. This one is an all-timer.

Pat Casey has been a friend for over a decade and this week he brings us a super juicy question: Is Mission Impossible the best spy movie franchise of all time?
It certainly appears to have some stiff competition but it all comes back to what you expect from a spy franchise. Is it womanizing, boozing, stunts, and invincibility or do your tastes lie more towards tradecraft, teamwork, and Herculean problem-solving? You might know Pat from his numerous screenwriting successes including the cult hit animated series GOLAN THE INSATIABLE or he and writing partner Josh Miller’s surprise smash SONIC THE HEDGEHOG which spawned its much-awaited sequel SONIC 2.
This is a great film discussion with significant contributions from a dude who is presently a blockbuster screenwriter, so listen up film nerds ‘cause we’re gonna learn ya somethin’ about just who is the best onscreen spy of all time.

On this extra special episode of The Greatest Pod, we interview one of our own, the contrarian curmudgeon, long-time TV producer, ¼ of The Reboot It Crew, ⅓ of The Greatest Pod, the great Producer Bill. He talks about his gateway into nerd culture, the thing that made him a comic book fan to this day and set him on the path to lifelong fandom….The Spider-man Clone Saga. I know, I know but when you hear us talk about it you’ll see that the much-maligned Spider Clone story did exactly what it was supposed to do which is sell comics and get new fans to come to Marvel. This podcast shows that both of those missions were accomplished in spades. It was the longest crossover in comics history so somebody was reading it, and Bill was one of those kids.

Is Michael Keaton the Greatest Onscreen Batman? That’s what friend of the show Billy Business has come to discuss with Ron and Ed. You know him from his work at Fandom, his podcast Hot Takes with Billy Biz, and of course, the YouTube phenomenon Reboot It.
This one is a fun dive into what it means to be a great Batman on the big screen. What qualities make for a good Batman or a good Bruce Wayne? One interesting point is that those seem to be two different roles. It’s a great trip from the 40’s serials to the latest films as we discuss and debate what makes a Batman truly great!

We have NY Times Best-Selling Author Daniel Kraus join us to talk about his love of Ben, the main character in the seminal zombie movie NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!
We discuss the impact this character had on a young writer and what this movie added to horror film discourse.
Daniel knows story and seeing George Romero’s world through his eyes sparks a great conversation about what the zombie movie is saying about society. It’s a bit deeper than “consumerism is bad”, or “society is fragile.” The zombie movie is a unique way to examine who we are under duress and Ben was the original hero of that new genre. To this day he remains an icon in the world of horror so enjoy us talking about why.
